We humans love telling ourselves scary stories. Our history books are full of episodes of baseless or exaggerated collective psychosis. Clowns, Satanism, the Momo Challenge and the summer of 2001, nicknamed the Summer of the Shark, are just a few of these collective psychoses that, with hindsight, often seem ridiculous but have consequences that are anything but funny.
